acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine that has been practised in China for more than 2000 years. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into the skin to encourage a healing response by affecting your energy, or “Qi”. When we are healthy and in balance, Qi flows naturally through meridians running inside the body. But the flow of energy can be disrupted in many ways – diet, trauma, constitution, emotions or overwork are common examples. When this happens, illness occurs.

By examining and understanding the underlying causes for each particular patient, the practitioner creates a unique and precisely tailored treatment that includes nutritional and lifestyle advice.

During your first appointment a full medical history will be taken alongside Chinese medicine diagnostic methods i.e. tongue examining, and pulse taking. This will be followed by acupuncture treatment. Some acute conditions can resolve in one or two treatments, while chronic problems usually require more regular treatment.

Acupuncture has no side-effects and can be safely performed while on medication or receiving other treatments. The needles are very fine and made of high quality stainless steel, designed to be virtually painless. They are left in place for 25 minutes, and commonly patients experience a pleasant feeling of relaxation.

Esperanza Fernández‘s practice is at her home in Richmond, southwest London, just 5 minutes from Richmond station. Home visits are also available. She is a fully insured member of the British Acupuncture Council.
